Get Them While They Are Ripe
Pummelo's are in season. They are a citrus fruit that are slightly larger than a soft ball and green in color. I just found some at the grocery store and bought every good one that they had. They cost me about $1.50 each.
Now pummelo's are an interesting fruit. In Florida, where I lived for a time, the locals called it a Japanese grapefruit. I have found that it is very filling and has wonderful appetite-surpressing qualities. I could eat two or three a day if this many were available.
They have a very thick skin with a lot of pith. The membrane is tough and bitter, so after you peel it, you'll want to remove the "fruit part" from its membrane. After you have removed the fruit, you will have nearly a full bowl of this slightly sweet fruit. Take advantage of the pummelo while you can.
